CMC awarded contract for Dawson Highway Calliope Range Deviation

CMC has been awarded a $22.9 million contract by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads for the construction of a new 4.5km, 4 lane road through the Calliope Range, approximately 60km south-west of Gladstone. The Dawson Highway connects the industrial centre of Gladstone to the Leichhardt Highway, which provides a more direct link to the southern capital cities.

The works will include 250,000m3 of bulk excavation through rock requiring drilling and blasting, 2500m3 of shotcrete, 11,300m of soil nailing, and a cutting depth of up to 20m. Other works include construction of unbound pavements, bituminous surfacing, 2000m of extruded concrete barrier and the construction of a 2 x 30m span precast prestressed super tee girder bridge.

Works are scheduled to commence on site in March 2010 with completion programmed for early 2011.
